Police: Man with machete threatened to blow up Laconia Police Department

LACONIA - Police arrested a man early Thursday morning after he allegedly made threats to blow up the town's police department.

Police responded to a 54 Bay Street at approximately 2 a.m. for a report of a man with a machete who had left the scene after making the threat to blow up the department using a propane tank. Police subsequently arrested Warren A. Bears, 45, of 54 Bay Street when he returned to the residence.

New Hampshire State Police explosives investigators responded to the incident to examine the devices as a precaution.

Bears was charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon and use of a Molotov Cocktail. Bears refused bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Belknap Superior Court.
