Police: Man trying to steal beer from NH Rite Aid assaults 62-year-old clerk
MANCHESTER — An attempted robbery at a Manchester Rite Aid led to the assault of a 62-year-old clerk.
Officers responded to the 122 McGregor Street store Saturday around 12:40 a.m. after receiving a report that a man tried to remove a beer from the cooler which is prohibited after 11:30 p.m.
The clerk attempted to stop the man from taking the beer, and when he did so, the man repeatedly punched the clerk, police said. These injuries required medical attention at the Catholic Medical Center.
Officers stopped Justin Tremblay, 22, at the rear of the store shortly after the incident and placed him under arrest for attempted robbery and disorderly conduct.
Tremblay allegedly became uncooperative during the booking process. While placed in a cell, he punched and kicked the safety glass causing it to shatter, police said. As a result, police additionally charged him with criminal mischief, a felony.
