Police: Man threatened to kill neighboring family with loaded rifle in Manchester

MANCHESTER - A family reported their neighbor threatened to kill them, leading to a 30-minunte police standoff over the weekend.

Police responded to 259 Spruce St. for reports of a man threatening people with a rifle.

A family in Manchester said their next door neighborhood, John "Jay" Yanovitch, 42 of Manchester, stepped out on to his porch, racked the chamber of his rifle, and threatened to kill them.

They say Yanovitch pointed the gun at them, and then went back into his apartment. The victims were a 29-year-old woman, a 34-year-old man and a 9-month-old infant.

Officers used a PA system to order Yanovitch out of his house. He was arrested after half an hour and charged with criminal threatening.

He was released on a $7,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 7.
