Police: Man drove through Merrimack triathlon with large amount of fresh marijuana

MERRIMACK - A man was busted with a large amount of freshly cut marijuana after he drove around police barricades set up to protect those competing in a YMCA triathlon.

Philip Wetzel was arrested Sunday.

Police said Camp Sergeant Road was closed due to heavy pedestrian traffic due to the YMCA triathlon. Police had their cruisers as well as barricades blocking the area of the Camp Sergeant and Naticook Road triangle.

Wetzel was redirected around the road closure, only to come back from the opposite end 10 minutes later, police said. Wetzel allegedly drove around the barricades onto the closed road where numerous pedestrians were located. After being told to stop, Wetzel allegedly continued down the road to be stopped by two more officers.

After he was placed under arrest, officers located the large quantity of fresh marijuana in his vehicle.
