Police: Man chases, detains teen for trying to steal his car while running in driveway
MANCHESTER — A man was arrested after allegedly trying to steal another man's car while it was running in his Nashua Street driveway.
Officer Jason Feliciano was flagged down by a motorist around 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the area of Bridge Street and Ash Street. The motorist directed the officer to the sidewalk in front of 547 Maple Street for an altercation between two men.
The officer noticed a vehicle parked on Maple Street with an open driver’s side door as he approached the two men, police said.
Upon speaking with the two men, the officer learned that Waseem Zaman, 31 of Manchester, was holding the suspect, later identified as Anthony Webster-Lupoli, 19 of Manchester, back from escaping.
Zaman told police that he had started his 2006 Toyota and left it running in his Nashua Street driveway before reentering his apartment. Once in the apartment, he heard someone driving away in his car, so he chased it and caught up to it at the Maple Street address.
Zaman pulled Webster-Lupoli out of the car and held him down until police arrived on the scene, according to police.
Zaman never granted Webster-Lupoli permission to take his vehicle, so police charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and he is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on Friday.
