Police: Man arrested twice in 24 hours for DWI, stealing own car from Durham impound lot

DURHAM - A man was arrested Saturday night for driving while intoxicated, and then again on Sunday for stealing his own impounded vehicle, according to the Foster's Daily Democrat.

Mark Jordan, 37 of Canton, Mass., was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Route 4 on Saturday night.

Officers found "a quantity of drugs that he did not have a prescription for," Durham Deputy Police Chief Rene Kelly told the paper.

The drugs are being tested at a lab.

After Jordan was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail Sunday morning, he went to Smitty's Towing on Dover Road in Durham, according to police. He called the owner of Smitty's to retrieve his car, and before the owner could arrive to the impound lot, Jordan had already taken his vehicle.

Dover police went to Jordan's last known address, which was a hotel in Dover, and arrested him again at 12:47 p.m. and charged him with theft of services, according to Foster's.

He was also charged with breach of bail.

“He was charged with breach of bail because he was supposed to remain on good behavior and commit no crimes, which he did not do,” Kelley told the paper.

Jordan was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned in Dover District Court on all four charges on Jan. 20.
