Police: Man and 16-year-old girl caught fleeing from stolen vehicle in Salem

SALEM – Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl after the two allegedly fled from a stolen car at about 6 p.m. Monday evening.

According to authorities, officers were setting up an observation point for a traffic safety campaign at the Mall at Rockingham Park when they noticed the vehicle, which had been reported as stolen out of Lowell, Mass., earlier that day.

Police said they saw the two walking away from the car and attempted to make contact with them, but the two fled on foot.

An unnamed 16-year-old was quickly detained, charged with resisting arrest and released to hear parents in Lowell.

Police said that 18-year-old Alexis Santiago led them on a chase through the mall and onto Pleasant Street before finally being detained at a nearby Mobil station. Santiago was charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and operating after suspension.

He’s scheduled to appear in court July 11.
