Police: Man allowed 10-year-old to drive car on Gilmanton roads

GILMANTON - Police arrested a man after they say he allowed a 10-year-old boy to drive on roads in Gilmanton.

Officers arrested Sean Mulcahy Sr., 42, of 15 Spaulding Road in Gilmanton Iron Works.

Mulcahy was arrested for allowing improper person to drive and endangering the welfare of a minor. Gilmanton Police alleged that Mulcahy allowed a 10-year-old to drive a Saab car.

Mulcahy is a certified habitual offender, police said. Mulcahy was charged in 2013 and sentenced in March 2014 for Reckless Conduct after a police chase in Gilmanton.

Mulcahy pleaded guilty to reckless conduct with a deadly weapon for placing Sgt. Matt Currier in danger when he used his car to force Currier's cruiser off the roadway. Judge James O'Neill sentenced Mulcahy to two to four years in NH State Prison on the reckless conduct charge and suspended it on good behavior for five years.

Mulcahy was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 8, 2015 at Laconia District Court.
