Police looking for car that fled serious crash in Effingham


EFFINGHAM - Police are looking for a white four-door sedan with New York license plates that fled the scene of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.
The crash occurred Thursday last 7:30 p.m. on Route 25 near the intersection of Route 153. Police responded and found one motorcycle on the ground in the middle of the westbound lane. The driver, Jonathan Kauffman, 21, of Bridgton, Maine, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center by helicopter. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.
Police said it appears the car involved stopped suddenly in the middle of the lane and Kauffman was unable to stop in time. Police said the motorcycle hit the back of the car.
The car is described as a white four-door sedan with orange New York plates. The driver was described as a black female, medium build, wearing glasses and a ponytail.
