Police K9 finds NH woman hiding after she allegedly fled car accident
ROCHESTER — A search was needed on Tuesday night to find the driver of a car who had hit a tree on Pickering Road.
Rochester Police and Fire responded to the report of a car accident on Pickering Rd. just before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night. The person who called in the accident told police that they did not see anyone with the vehicle.
Police arrived on scene to find an SUV that had veered off of the road and into a tree resulting in the airbags deploying and heavy damage to the front of the car.
A passerby told police that they had seen a female, later identified as Nicole Higgins, 37 of Rochester, in the car earlier but had not noticed that the vehicle had been in an accident when they saw it.
The Rochester and Dover Police Departments began a search for Higgins in the area near the accident. With the help of a K-9, Higgins was found in the grass just over the line in Dover.
Dover EMS responded and Higgins was taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the accident.
Higgins was arrested at the hospital and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Rochester District Court on June 26 at 8:00 a.m.
