ALBANY — The New Hampshire State Police's Marine Patrol has identified a Massachusetts man who drowned in an Albany pond after his canoe overturned.

Marine patrol officials say 49-year-old Mark Wellig of Randolph, Mass., was pronounced dead Sunday after being pulled from Whitton Pond in New Hampshire.

Authorities were called to the pond at 11:18 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports that a canoe had capsized and people were in the water.

Police say all three boaters were wearing life jackets, but a man was trapped underneath the canoe.

Witnesses administered CPR to the man, but he was pronounced dead after being brought to the shore.

The incident remains under investigation.
