Police: 'Highly intoxicated' man nearly crashes into fire truck in Manchester

MANCHESTER — A man who almost collided head-on with a Manchester Fire Engine was later determined "highly intoxicated," police said.

Lieutenant Veilleux of the fire department noticed a BMW exit a parking lot and drive on the wrong side of Franklin Street on Monday at about 10:20 a.m. The driver then made a U-turn in the middle of the intersection and proceeded to head towards the front of the fire truck, stopping just inches before colliding with it, police said.

Doug Sanfason, 39 of Manchester, fell to the ground while trying to get out of his driver's seat, according to officials.

Sanfason was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
