KENSINGTON – Police arrested a man at Portsmouth Hospital after police say he had alcohol in his system at the time of a crash reportedly he caused on North Haverill Road in Kensington on Thursday afternoon.

Police say 69-year-old Alan Carlson, Hampton, failed to yield at the intersection of Kimball and North Haverill Roads, causing a 22-year-old man driving a Jeep Cherokee to crash into his vehicle. The Jeep’s driver was uninjured in the crash.

According to officials, Carlson’s actions forced an unavoidable accident. He is charged with driving while intoxicated and remains in critical condition at the hospital.
