Police find man dead after hours-long standoff

The Associated Press

HAMPTON (AP) — Police in Hampton, New Hampshire, say they found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following an hours-long standoff at a motel.

Police had responded to the motel at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday in search of a man linked to a burglary investigation in Seabrook. They said the man fired multiple shots at them. Police retreated and called in a SWAT team.

Police later found him dead early Friday, but did not confirm if the man was the person who fired at them or was the subject of the burglary investigation.

No officers were injured. The incident is under investigation.
