MANCHESTER—A 5-year-old boy was placed under the care of a family member after police found him in a car with woman who had passed out behind the wheel and in possession of alcohol and drugs.
Manchester police officer Kenneth Brunini responded to the Gulf Express at 21 South Main Street about 1:45 a.m. Sunday. A clerk at the station said that a Subaru Forester had pulled into the station about 12:20 a.m. and remained parked next to the gas pumps for about an hour.
Brunini attempted to wake the woman who was behind the wheel of the car, which was not running. The officer saw keys in the car's ignition, an open can of alcohol next to her and an unbuckled and sleeping boy in the backseat.
The driver was later identified as Alyssa Lombardi, 31, of Manchester.
When the woman got out of the car, Brunini noticed a small piece of plastic bag on the driver's seat. She agreed to let police search her car after officer Brunini questioned her about the piece of plastic. He discovered three bags of heroin totaling .04 grams from her purse, which was located on the passenger seat of the car.
Lombardi is scheduled to appear in Manchester District Court Monday and face charges of possession of a controlled drug, operating under the influence of drugs or liquor and endangering the welfare of a child.
