Police: Fatal collision in Rochester closes Route 16

ROCHESTER — One man died and another man was injured after a rollover on Route 16 in Rochester that closed down the highway for five hours on Friday night.

Police say they arrived to find a Subaru Forester off the side of the road near exit 15 with two people inside. The driver, Lawrence Douglas, 37, of Rochester sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center. His passenger, James Gosselin, 54, also of Rochester, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it appears the vehicle struck the concrete barrier in the center of the road several times then swerved and rolled over multiple times.

Speed may have been a factor in this crash, police said, but the all aspects remain under investigation. Anyone with information related to this collision, or who witnessed this collision is asked to contact Trooper Greg Dube at 603-223-8490 or by email at
