The Associated Press

LACONIA — Police in Laconia, N.H., are asking the public for help after discovering a suspicious device.

A police car was flagged down on Saturday around 7:30 p.m. near Academy Street and Pearl Street by a resident who saw a device in the intersection that was smoking.

The officer found the item, which was three cylindrical containers taped together with duct tape.

State police say the immediate area was evacuated and the device was examined by a robot and found to be crude and homemade. It was destroyed and residents were allowed back into their homes by 9 p.m.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Laconia Police Department.
