Police: Couple arrested in NH after 4-year-old found in car with driver at .16 BAC

HAMPTON — A couple was arrested after police said a woman was driving drunk with an open container and a 4-year-old child in the car.

Heather Kent, 29, of Amesbury, Mass., and Jason Nelson, 41 of Seabrook, were pulled over on Lafayette Road in Hampton around 5:26 p.m.

Police said Kent, who was driving, took a breathalyzer test which determined her alcohol concentration to be above .16. Officers found an open container in the car and the 4-year-old in the backseat.

The child has since been released by the police to a family member.

Nelson gave a false name but once his identity was determined, police said he was arrested and charged with false reports to law enforcement.

Kent was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and endangering the welfare of a child.

She posted $750 cash bail and will be arraigned at the 10th Circuit Seabrook District Court on Sept. 27.

Nelson, who was released on personal recognizance, will be arraigned at the same location on Nov. 1.
