Police: 40-plus vehicles could be involved in Maine pileup

ETNA, Maine - Maine State Police said more than 40 vehicles might be involved in an interstate pileup in Etna, south of Bangor, that has closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.

Police said the last of the injured were being extricated from the wrecks. There have been no fatalities, however a couple of the injured appeared to be in serious condition. One veteran State Trooper described the crash site as a "giant pile of metal."

Heavy snow continued to fall at the crash site which is between Newport and Bangor.

Northbound motorists should take the Newport exit to avoid the crash site. I-95 will be closed for the remainder of Wednesday morning.
