Police: 2 busted with 790 bags of heroin in major New England drug bust

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Two men were found in possession of 790 bags of suspected heroin after a routine traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Holyoke, Mass., police said.

A 19-year-old man and his passenger, a 25-year-old man - both from Springfield, Vt., were arrested and brought to the Northampton Barracks around 10 p.m. Sunday night.

The driver was issued a civil citation for the motor vehicle offense and charged criminally with trafficking in heroin/morphine/opium, conspiracy to violate drug laws, operating with suspended license, number plate violation

The passenger was issued a civil citation for a motor vehicle offense and charged criminally with trafficking in heroin/morphine/opium, and failure to wear seat belt.

Both were held on $540 bail, and transported to Hampshire County House of Correction pending arraignment at District Court.
