Plane crashes miles from Laconia Motorcycle Week
LACONIA - The call came in early this morning, as a small plane crashed off Hadley Road on Thursday morning. All taking place just minutes away from the area's most popular attraction.
“He’s very capable, very capable because he put the plane in a small field in the woods,” said Keith Wolcott, a neighbor of the victim and a former Navy pilot.
Neighbors are confused as to what caused the man who had been flying for years to crash. Eventually the 80 year old man had to be cut from the cockpit.
“Typically you wonder about the mechanical. I mean the weather was good, the wind wasn’t up so that’s what I thought just mechanical,” Wolcott.
The man was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock where he is expected to make a recovery but the 9-1-1 calls didn't stop there for Laconia Fire and EMS.
“The adrenaline keeps us going,” said Debbie Black, Laconia Firefighter and Paramedic. Black went on to say she’s been working with the force for 20 years but then her walkie-talkie interrupts our interview.
The call comes in as a motorcycle accident and one for heat exhaustion and then dehydration, all on top of crowd control during the busiest week of the year.
