Pittsfield man faces charges involving crash, stolen vehicle

ANDOVER - A Pittsfield man was arrested by state police and charged after an accident involving a stolen vehicle on Route 11 Friday morning.

Daniel A. Chambers, 37, was apprehended after being seen hitchhiking a short distance from the scene of a motor vehicle collision, where a stolen 2002 Dodge Durango was found crashed into a guard rail and abandoned.

Police said that though Chambers denied involvement, he was witnessed leaving the scene of the crash and items belonging to the vehicle’s owner were found in his possession.

Chambers is being charged with operating while a habitual offender, receiving stolen property, conduct after an accident and possession of drugs. He is being held on $1,500 cash bail and will be arraigned Feb. 22.
