PHOTOS: With no one watching the Rye whale at night, vandals take skin, walk on tail

RYE - There were security fences but no security stopping people from getting an up-close view of the humpback whale that washed ashore earlier this week.

An NH1 reporter witnessed about 30 people walking up to the whale Tuesday night and doing everything from taking pictures with the carcass to touching it to leaving footprints on the whale's tail. Large pieces of skin from the carcass also seemed to have been taken.

Officials were unavailable for comment.

The 18-year-old female names Snow Plow has been deceased for several days.
