PHOTOS: Storms winds fueled 3-alarm fire in NH, 'luckily' blew away from other buildings

SEABROOK — Seven people are left to pick up the pieces at a local motel after a three-alarm fire destroyed their homes.

The 40 mph to 50 mph winds that came with Tuesday's storm are believed to have gotten the fire going. Luckily, the winds were blowing west to east, so the fire was blown in the direction of an empty parking lot, rather than toward other buildings.

Seabrook Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a tenant above Catalano's Market, saying that her apartment was on fire and she couldn't get out, according to a Seabrook firefighter. Upon arrival, all tenants had escaped safely.

The market was downstairs, and there were two apartments upstairs — one apartment had five tenants, the other had two tenants, according to a Seabrook firefighter.

Sam Catalano, the owner of the market, arrived around daybreak and remained on scene to assess the damages.

Castaways Seafood and Grille, which is to the north of Catalano's, sustained minor exterior damage from exposure to the fire, according to a Seabrook firefighter.

A friend of one of the affected families, the Washok-Leatham's, set up a GoFundMe to help the family out. According to the GoFundMe, the apartment was rented out by a mother and three daughters, one of which who has severe autism. The Washok-Leatham's lost pictures, clothes, food, etc.
