WATERVILLE VALLEY — The 21st Annual Special Olympics Winter Games ended Tuesday at Waterville Valley Resort.
Athletes participated in several events, including alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
In total, 261 athletes and more than 250 volunteers participated in this year's games.
The New Hampshire Special Olympics first hosted games in 1972.
“At Special Olympics, we have the same expectations of our athletes as we would have of any other athlete: to try hard, to compete fairly, to follow the rules and to do their best. These expectations help our athletes learn new skills, build confidence and reach their goals – both on and off the playing field," the organization's website reads.
