CARROLL — Two bear cubs are now being rehabilitated in Lyme after being too small to stay with their mother and siblings.
Police took a call for a mother bear and four cubs crossing the road near Bretton Woods Ski Resort on Thursday.
Trooper Thomas Owens from State Police Troop F responded to make sure the bears were safe. He found that one of the cubs was smaller than the others and could not keep up with the mother. After speaking with New Hampshire Fish and Game, a decision was made to remove the cub and bring it to a rehabilitation center.
The mother bear had a fifth cub that also is weaker and had been taken in on Wednesday.
The two cubs will be returned to the wilderness after they have grown stronger.
Police want to remind people who come into contact with wild animals to contact local police or Fish and Game.
