PORTSMOUTH — Over 100 immigrants were sworn in as U.S. citizens at an Independence Day ceremony.
Those being sworn in represented immigrants from five continents and 42 countries, and many of them have been living in the U.S. for a while.
U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen was on hand to welcome the candidates during the ceremony at Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth.
"I know that each of you feels like this is a great day in your life, but I want to be clear that this is also a great day for America, because for more than four centuries, our nation has been continuously enriched and renewed by immigrants,” Shaheen said. “Folks just like you, who come here with your energy, your talents, your passion, who want to continue to look for opportunities in America.
