The incident has been dubbed as "ArbourGate" online, with a petition created by Ryan Innis asking the school board to review superintendent Dr. Elaine Arbour's decision, the Union Leader reported.

Arbour said the coaches were in a separate vehicle from the head coach and students while they were drinking, but that they were still on duty traveling back to Dover High School after a game in Keene. She said that the school board policy talks about not using alcohol at school events, whether it's on- or off-site.

The decision to dismiss the coaches was made after reviewing the policy and conducting interviews, Arbour said.

So far over 600 people have supported the petition, claiming the volunteer and assistant football coaches had a positive impact on the community.
