Peterborough woman trying to avoid deer hits telephone pole, stone wall causing rollover crash

HANCOCK — A driver trying to avoid a deer in the road hit a telephone pole along with a stone wall causing the car to roll over twice.

June Winey, 53 of Peterborough was driving northbound on Middle Road near the intersection of Tannery Hill Road when the crash happened Tuesday at about 10:12 a.m.

She hit the telephone pole on the east shoulder of the road, breaking the pole, police said. The vehicle then continued into a stone wall where it rolled over twice before coming to a stop.

Winey was checked at the scene for injuries, but refused transportation to a hospital saying that she was uninjured, police said.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and is believed to be totaled.

The road was closed for about 45 minutes.
