Pedestrian in crosswalk hit by van in Laconia

LACONIA - A pedestrian crossing at Union Avenue and Messer Street on Sunday afternoon was hit by a white van but appears to have avoided serious injuries.

Police say the call came in shortly before 4 p.m. The driver of the van, Robert Mahoney, 44, of South Main Street, hit her in the southbound lane of Union Avenue in the crosswalk. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors, police said.

The 21-year-old woman, who was not identified by police, was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital but did not seem to have suffered any major injuries. The driver has not been cited and police say their investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Laconia Police Department or the Greater Laconia Crime Line at 524-1717.
