Pedestrian hit by a car in Porstsmouth; dark, rainy weather blamed

PORTSMOUTH - A 16-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car on Woodbury Avenue on Wednesday evening but didn't appear to be seriously injured.

According to seacoastonline.com, the teenager was discovered in the roadway, but paramedics found no obvious injuries besides scrapes to his head. He was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for further evaluation.

Police say the accident happened near Granite Street about 20 minutes after the sun set on a cloudy and rainy day. Alcohol or speed did not appear to be factors.

“It appears to be a situation where someone was in the road and the driver simply did not see him,” Sgt. David Keaveny said.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene for about 15 minutes, Keaveny said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Portsmouth police at 427-1500.
