Pease Greeters welcome 1,000th flight of returning members of the armed forces

PORTSMOUTH - The Pease Greeters met their 1,000th flight Tuesday at Portsmouth International Airport with open arms and hugs for troops on their way home from Afghanistan.

"It feels awesome. You know after nine months of coming back home and being able to reintegrate with my family, bringing all my soldiers home," one greeter said. "It's a blessing, so it feels very good."

The Pease Greeters is an organization of retired veterans and locals who welcome the men and women from the armed forces as they pass through the Portsmouth airport.

The troops the greeters met Tuesday are now on their way to Texas.
