Lyndon Johnson

Pay the $1,000 to file in NH and mount a serious campaign

Good choice but still no guarantee of success.

The winner of the NH presidential primary, either on the Democratic or Republican side, has not always gone on to win the party's nomination to run for president in the general election.

BUT, only one person who successfully ran and was elected President did NOT file to run in NH or appear on the NH primary ballot.

That was Lyndon Johnson, who nonetheless won the Democratic primary in NH in 1964 and in 1968 as a write-in candidate (though he did not seek re-election in 1968)

Go to the next question.

Go back to the beginning.
