WASHINGTON - No surprise here: New Hampshire GOP Chair Jennifer Horn is "enthusiastically" backing the bid by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus for third term steering the party committee.
"Reince Preibus has done an outstanding job as RNC Chairman and helped lead our party to historic victories in 2014. He has earned another term as chairman, and I am proud to enthusiastically support his bid for reelection," Horn said in a statement provided to NH1 on Tuesday.
In a note Monday night to RNC members, Priebus announced his plan to seek a third term as committee chairman, and he shared that he had the backing of 150 of the 168 party officials who make up the national committee and who get to vote in January for RNC chairman. The note from Priebus was first reported by CNN and confirmed by NH1.
Priebus took over as RNC chairman at the beginning of 2011, when the party committee was $25 million in debt. He stepped up fundraising efforts, getting the RNC out of the red. Following the 2012 election, when the GOP failed to win back the White House or the Senate, he commissioned a "Growth and Opportunity Project," which called for the party to increase outreach efforts to grow the base. Last month, in the midterm elections, the Republicans convincingly won back control of the Senate and increased their majority in the House of Representatives.
If Priebus serves a third term, he'll become the longest serving chairman in RNC history.
Priebus was last in New Hampshire in early September, when he teamed up with Horn in Nashua to rally grassroots volunteers.
