Patriots win just highlights their problems

Ah, nothing like early season NFL games. You get the feeling that were it not the Oakland Raiders visiting Gillette Stadium on Sunday, the New England Patriots would have been in big trouble. The Patriots’ 16-9 win on Sunday was, for a good chunk of it, a snoozer, and for the last half of the last quarter, edge-of-your seat stuff. You were expecting nap time due to a blowout, but instead it was because neither team gave you much to be excited about. Then the Patriots survived because the Raiders are, well, the Raiders. Phantom holds to take away a final-minute, game-tying touchdown always happen to bad teams. And opposing nose tackles, such as one named Wilfork, come up with hot potato interceptions. But for the Patriots, this certainly isn’t 2007, when they beefed up their offense and scored nearly at will.
