Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski may miss rest of NFL season as he undergoes back surgery
FOXBORO, Mass. — New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski may miss the rest of the NFL season as he undergoes back surgery, a source told ESPN.
After missing several early games due to a hamstring injury, Gronkowski took a hit during Week 10 against the Seahawks, leaving him with a chest injury. He missed the next game against the 49ers and started against the Jets last week, but left the field after the second quarter due to a back injury.
The source told ESPN that Gronkowski was diagnosed with a herniated disk and would need surgery. The surgery is scheduled for Friday, and the recovery time will take about two months.
Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady were not present for practice on Wednesday.
