Parking restricted in downtown Portsmouth for July 3 fireworks

PORTSMOUTH - Police Chief David Mara announced there will be a parking ban on several Portsmouth streets on July 3 for the annual fireworks display.

Parking will be limited to residents only on the following streets:

  • Parrott Avenue
  • Junkins Avenue
  • Mt. Vernon Street
  • Pleasant Street
  • South Street from Miller to Marcy
  • Richmond Street
  • Rogers Street
  • Edward Street
  • Livermore Street
  • Wentworth Street
  • Melcher Street
  • Whidden Street
  • Franklin Street
  • Pickering Street
  • Hunking Street
  • Gardner Street
  • Gates Street
  • Howard Street
  • Elwyn Avenue
  • Sherburne Avenue
  • Rockland Street
  • Kent Street
  • Richards Avenue

Vehicles will be towed from the South Mill Pond playground parking lot on Junkins Avenue beginning at 10:00 a.m. on July due to the close proximity of loaded fireworks tubes. Vehicles parked on Parrott Avenue between Richards Avenue to Junkins Avenue will be towed beginning at noon. The tennis courts/basketball courts/playground areas and baseball areas will be closed by 6:00 a.m. Limited handicapped parking will be available at the Portsmouth Public Library. The parking garage will charge a flat $5 fee for parking during the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
