Parents shocked after man exposes himself to kids at a family beach in Rye

RYE - Wallis Sands State Park in Rye is a quiet beach, one that families seek out for its safety.

"They clean the beach every day, so you don’t have to worry about needles, trash, beer cans and cigarettes,” said Nena Dollard, a mother from Bedford.

On Tuesday, three kids were playing in the tide pool area near the rocks when a man took off his shorts, intentionally exposing himself to them.

“You know, you kind of read about it in the news or in magazines and stuff, but you don’t think it’s actually going to happen where you’re at. I’m glad we missed it,” said Melissa Cregg, a mom visiting from Wisconsin.

The kids ran away and told a parent who called police. The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s or 50s with a white buzz cut. He also has a tattoo on his arm that goes around his left bicep with a lot of green ink.

Parents are already on high alert even before hearing about this incident – a man caught their eye today.

“I did earlier, and I brought it to my friend’s attention and I kept an extra eye on him,” said Ann Mayers, a concerned mother from Manchester.

Parents say it isn’t the best way to kick off summer – but unfortunately they’re not surprised.

“At this beach yes, in this world, no,” Dollard said.

“Nothing surprises me. I just have to keep an extra eye on my children,” Mayers said.

In their press release, Rye Police say they want to thank the parent who came forward with this information.

Anyone who thinks they may know who this person is should contact Rye Police at (603) 964-5522 or Seacoast Crime Stoppers at (603) 431-1199 or in Maine at (207)-439-1199 or submit an anonymous Web Tip at or you can send a Text Tip to TIPSCS (847727) at CRIMES (274637).
