EAST KINGSTON - The parents of 27-year-old Adam Moser always knew their son liked to push the limits, but they never imagined he would use a drug that ended his life.
Adam Moser is one of several suspected weekend overdose victims in the seacoast area. Police say first responders arrived at his apartment 2 a.m. Sunday, but they were unable to revive him.
Moser graduated from Exeter High School in 2006 and then received a science degree from Temple University. He interned on Wall Street, his parents said, but he couldn't stand the confines of a cubicle. His adventurous spirit led him to several jobs, including working as a fisherman on the TV show 'Wicked Tuna.'
He tried Fentanyl once, and told his friend it scared him. He tried the drug a second time, once again telling a friend he was scared. For reason's his parents don't know, Moser took Fentanyl a third time.
"They thought he was passing out, but he never woke up," said Adam's father Jim Moser.
Fentanyl is being sold under the name heroin, police said. Often times, the opioid pain management drug is mixed with heroin. But in Moser's case, the Medical Examiner told his parents it appears he was taking a straight dose of Fentanyl, which was likely taken as a pill or powder.
The Moser's said Adam's frank obituary where they wrote he died of a suspected overdose, was inspired by the obituary for Molly Parks, which went viral after her father openly stated she had a drug problem.
Adam didn't have a serious drug problem his parents said, but he used a drug that can kill on the first try.
"One and done, that's my message," Jeanne Moser said, "This isn't a weekend joyride, it kills."
