Pamela Smart complains about hygiene, solitary confinement in updated lawsuit

Pamela Smart who was convicted of conspiring to killing her husband in 1990, claims she was wrongly thrown into solitary confinement by officers at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.

The former Winnacunnet High School employee who was found guilty of convincing one of her students to kill her husband alleges that corrections officers taunted her, and called her names including Jason, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer for having a plastic cake knife, the reason for her solitary confinement.

Smart filed a lawsuit against the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) in November, more details alleged stringent conditions in an updated complaint filed Tuesday.

Smart was "let outside of a cell for one hour a day, to a cage with a basketball hoop and deflated ball," while in solitary, according to the complaint.

She was also only permitted three showers per week, "irrespective of... hygienic state or menstrual cycle" and wasn't permitted to call her home or lawyers.

She claims she was also denied access to church and bible study.
