Pakistan mourns ambassadors, others killed in chopper crash

The Associated Press

ISLAMABAD (AP) Pakistan is observing a day of mourning following the crash of an army helicopter that killed the ambassadors of the Philippines and Norway and the wives of envoys from Malaysia and Indonesia.

The helicopter with the dignitaries was on route to the northern village of Naltar on Friday, where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was to inaugurate a newly installed chair-lift at a ski resort.

The Pakistani Talban claimed they shot down the helicopter, but officials denied it.

The funeral for the three crew members was held in the northern city of Gilgi on Saturday. If the weather remains clear, the bodies of the four dignitaries will be transported from Gilgit to Islamabad later in the day.
