Oyster River High School cancels dance after students caught drunk
DURHAM, NH - A local high school's homecoming dance was cancelled after a handful of students brought alcohol and marijuana to school on Friday.
Oyster River High School in Durham celebrated Spirit Week last week, ending the week with a field day on Friday. During that event, faculty noticed a group of students who appeared to be intoxicated and confiscated both drugs and alcohol from those students.
"Unfortunately they had been brought on to school property, fortunately we were able to detect it. Also fortunately all of the kids that we dealt with freely admitted their involvement with it and we were able to get to the bottom of the issues relatively quickly," said Principal Todd Allen.
Allen said the students involved were suspended. He is working with the senior class to find a reschedule date for the dance.
