Gary Bandouveres was arriving at work Tuesday morning when he noticed one of the windows in a front door had been smashed. Bandouveres entered the building and called police but when he went back to the front of the store he saw a woman smashing the cigarette case.

"I looked at her and I went 'what are you doing?' And she just looked at me with that glazed look and then she tried to run, so I tackled her," Bandouveres said.

But then things escalated.

"While we were on the floor she had a ball peen hammer in her hand and just missed my head and hit my back shoulder," he said.

Bandouveres held the woman until police arrived.

Police identified the woman as Vanessa Lee Bentley, 36, of Rochester.

Dover Police charged Vanessa Lee Bentley with attempted burglary and felony possession of a controlled substance.

After an investigation police found Janetos was Bentley's second target. Her first stop was Downtown Discount Beverage, where the owner tells NH1 News she also broke the door, but was scared off by an alarm system.

"She tried to open up the door with a crowbar but it didnt work so she must have gotten mad and she threw the crowbar through the window," said owner Victor Patel.

During her arrest, Dover police found Bentley was in possession of what's believed to be heroin and cocaine. She's currently being held on bail.
