Owner of Bedford Village Inn offers to buy Plaistow teen a new bike after theft

PLAISTOW - The story of a 15-year-old's stolen bicycle, a gift from a beloved grandfather, prompted a generous offer from the owner of the Bedford Village Inn.

Myles Porter's bike disappeared from outside his house on June 9, and when Jack Carnevale, of the Bedford Village Inn, learned of the theft, he was moved to act.

“The most saddening part was that this was a gift from his grandfather that his grandson was very fond of and shortly after buying the bike for his grandson, he passed away from cancer. While I am replacing a bicycle, it won’t be the one that I’m sure held fond memories for this young man,” Carnevale told the Union Leader.

The teen says he was surprised and grateful.

“I’m really thankful for his generosity and I have the utmost respect for him,” Porter said. Even though it won’t be the same bike that his grandfather gave him, “it will still mean something.”

Porter's mother says the day of the theft she was in the house and heard laughter outside, then looked out to see the bike being thrown into the back of a newer-model blue Ford Escape as it drove away.

“The biggest thing was that my dad got it for him. That was the worst part about it," she said of the theft.
