Owl in recovery at NH center after being hit by car on Route 101

CANDIA — An owl rescued was earlier this month after being hit by a car.

On April 14, New Hampshire State Trooper Craig Gagne said he got a call around 7:30 a.m. from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation in Candia about an owl that was struck by a vehicle.

Gagne found the owl in the breakdown lane in on Route 101 unresponsive. He called New Hampshire Fish and Game and drove the owl to Epping where it is now in recovery at On The Wing.

NH1 News was told by On The Wing that the owl was treated at Veterinary Emergency and Surgery Hospital in Brentwood were it was given vitamins, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication for it's head injury.

The owl is now doing better and is even hunting for food on its own. They are expecting to release him back into the wild within the next few days.
