Opponents of federal corn ethanol mandate air ads in NH, Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Opponents of federal corn ethanol mandates are targeting Ohio in a national ad campaign.

It's part of the Smarter Fuel Future campaign joined by environmental and business groups and academics. The 30-second ad "Inconvenient Facts," purchased by the American Council for Capital Formation, argues the mandate, which requires increasing volumes of corn ethanol be blended into the U.S. gasoline supply, has hurt the environment and economy. Versions are also airing in Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The U.S. EPA is looking to reduce required volumes, citing inadequate infrastructure to accommodate ethanol-infused gasoline. Corn growers and other supporters of the mandate say it forces oil companies to improve infrastructure at gas pumps to deliver ethanol fuel blends above the current 10 percent mix.
