Operation Santa Claus gift delivery taking place after theft

The Associated Press

CONCORD — "Operation Santa Claus" is back in the sleigh again, delivering gifts on Thursday.

The State Employee's Association will be making deliveries despite the theft of roughly $3,000 worth of gift cards and other items from a state garage around Thanksgiving.

A line of National Guard trucks substituting for Santa's sleigh is traveling throughout the state with the gifts.

Last week, James E. Pechacek, 23, was charged with stealing the gift cards. Police said they were taken from a state-owned van in a locked garage between Nov. 25 and Nov. 30 in Concord.

Also stolen were tools including a hammer drill, nail gun and electric saw.
