One driver dies in New Durham crash, 2 others injured
NEW DURHAM - A collision on Route 11 killed one driver and left a passenger in critical condition Saturday morning. A second driver suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries, according to state police.
Police say they were notified of the accident just before 9 a.m. and arrived at the scene just west of Tash Road. A green Ford pickup truck had been traveling east on Route 11 when it crossed over into the westbound lane and into the path of a blue Ford Fusion.
Police say they do not know why the truck crossed into the other lane. The driver of the Fusion died of the injuries at the scene and a female passenger was taken by helicopter to Maine Medical Center where police say she remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon. The driver of the pickup truck was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center.
The crash is under investigation by state police. The names of the drivers and the passenger are being withheld so their respective families can be notified.
