Old bell at Hampton United Methodist Church to ring again

HAMPTON - It's been decades since residents have heard the church bells ring at the Hampton United Methodist Church, but that's all about to change.

One local family made a donation to the church that allowed them to go through with the renovations to the bell to put it back in service. Wayne Elliot has been a member of the church for 86 years. The return of the bell holds a special place in his heart because his father used to ring the bell for services on Sundays.

"All my life one of the two things I've wanted to see happen before I left this world was to hear the bell ring and low and behold, a miracle happened," he said.

The church will hold a dedication service on Sunday Nov. 2, 2014, to officially ring the bell for the first time in over 50 years.
