Ohio hikers rescued 1 mile from a parking lot at NH trailhead
FRANCONIA — A pair of hikers found themselves lost and off the trail just over a mile from a parking lot Tuesday night.
Brandon Kline, 32, and Katie Kline, 31, from Liberty Township, Ohio were making their way back down the Falling Waters Trail in Franconia at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night when they lost track of the trail.
The two contacted 911 and told the operator that they were lost and did not have any lights, food, water, extra clothing or anything else they would need to spend the night in the woods.
Using the coordinates from the call the hikers location was found to be about 1.2 miles from the parking lot at the end of the trail. At 10:45 p.m. two conservation officers from NH Fish and Game began hiking into the wood to locate the hikers.
The officers found the hikers at 11:34 p.m. just one mile from the parking lot. The two had relocated the trail and were slowly making their way back down.
Conservation officers provided them with food, water and lights to help them see. They rested for a short time before being led to the trail head.
Neither lost hiker was injured and were back in the parking lot and off the trail just before 1:00 a.m.
